THE GARDENING CLUB – Congratulations to Claudia Buttera and the entire group of volunteers who have taken on the care of the common gardens at Sunset Lakes. The transformation as a result of their efforts has been a sight to behold! If you missed the first meeting of the “Gardening Club” at Paula’s, don’t despair – anyone can join in, at any time…. just call 822-8228. In the meantime… if you see a weed, please pull it or if something looks dry, please water it! Thank you!

Just a reminder, in an effort to preserve and protect our lakes, please use organic products only on your lawn and garden. For more details on what products are acceptable, please contact the sales centre.

SPRING CLEAN UP – Thanks to the volunteers who put in their time and effort during the spring clean up.

REMINDERS –

June 7th – Golf Tournament and BBQ at Metcalfe Golf Course, followed by a BBQ at our pool.

June 14th – Meet your neighbours at the Community Pot Luck and Pool BBQ

June 27th and 28th Sunset Lakes hosts Canada’s Capital Slalom Challenge, the 4th Annual Water Ski Tournament. This years entries include skiers from Ontario, Quebec, Florida, North Dakota, Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The tournament starts at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday Morning. Look for Sunset Lakes residents Patrina and Heather Byles in the early going. The “record capable” rounds will be starting at approximately 10:00 a.m. This year 72 year old Tom Chapin of Minneapolis, Minnesota will also be shooting for a U.S. National Record in his in his age group. Last year 7 National Records were set here at Sunset Lakes.

Water Ski Wednesdays have started again. Anyone interested at trying their luck at water ski-ing are welcome to come down and as per last year’s requirements no show offs allowed! We are also looking for individuals to become trained to assist with the driving. Ski-ing starts at 6:30 p.m. (or whenever the driver shows). Fee structure posted at pool. Please contact 822-8228.

Water Ski School – July 6th – l0th. This is a great opportunity for kids of all ages to learn to ski or to improve their ski-ing under the excellent guidance of Glen Byles.

Swimming Lessons – see attached information about the YMCA sponsored program scheduled for August 10th – 14th.

“The Lake Preservation Group” formerly known as the “Lake Quality Committee” has been formed with Russ Shearer, Leo Buffa and Dan Anderson agreeing to assist to date. Other participants are welcome to join whether or not you have expertise in this area. We are hoping to identify and educate ourselves and residents as to measures to enhance and protect the water quality of our lakes. Anyone interested please contact one of the foregoing or leave your name with Linda at the Sales Centre.

SWIMMING POOL – Thanks to Matt for getting the pool opened and the temperature up to 83c before the May long weekend. What a pleasure it has been already.

A few items have been left at the poolside and will be deposited into a lost and found box.

We have received several complaints that some people are ‘propping open’ the door to the pool area. Please make sure that the gate to the pool area is closed at all times for safety reasons

VOLLEYBALL – look for an upgrade to our volleyball area. Matt is turning it into a genuine beach volleyball court.

FISHING – Our resident “Marine Biologist” has suggested not to use live bait while fishing. Worms and lures are o.k. but the introduction of other species may upset the natural balance of the lake ecosystems.
